International high-level conference on water cooperation (20-21 August 2013)
International high-level conference on water cooperation has been organized by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan together with the institutions of the United Nations. The conference was held in Dushanbe on 20-21 August 2013 in accordance with General Assembly resolution A/67/204 of 21 December 2012 “The International Year of Water Cooperation 2013”. The main objective of the conference – to promote dialogue and mutual understanding on water cooperation at all levels, as well as to build and strengthen partnerships. The participants of the Dushanbe conference were 900 delegates from 70 countries. Seven Vice- Secretary General of the United Nations, politicians and experts in the field of water problems at the international level came to Tajikistan. The conference brought together leading members of the public authorities, academics, representatives of civil society organizations working in the field of water.
At the conference, in accordance with the stated theme and set time frames were organized the separate thematic sessions. FSCI in partnership with CAREC and his Tajik Branch organized and hosted a side event “Civil society and the issues of water cooperation”. On this side-event FSCI staff made a presentation “The economic mechanisms of water management (to the question of charges for water resources)”.
